Language for Scholars Program

Language for Scholars improves the communication skills of elementary and high school students so that they are understood, accepted and responded to positively by teachers and employers. Participants learn how to use language and words effectively, while also learning business etiquette and body language which are crucial skills needed in order to excel in academic and business settings.

How it Works

Language for Scholars can be implemented directly by Leap Learning Systems’ staff, or staff can train educators to implement it themselves in their classroom. It can be as intense as the recipient wants it to be, for example it can take one week every day to implement, or it can be implemented in a one day workshop, or twice a week over a six week period. The program is tailored to schools, students and teachers’ specific needs— as all of Leap Learning Systems’ programs are.

The program is designed to:

Improve students’ pronunciation and grammar
Encourage polite conversation style and attitude
Stress the correct use of non verbal communication including eye contact, body posture and mannerisms
Promote the use of Academic English in business settings, while respecting all other social dialects
Improve students’ writing skills and style.

The purpose of this program is to professionally analyze and enhance the oral and written expression skills of the participants in preparation for continued education and employment. By identifying individual speaking and writing goals and addressing these goals through a variety of experiences, the best students will become even better in a short period of time.

The ability to use Academic English can broaden social, educational, and economic opportunities by expanding one’s oral effectiveness beyond their immediate community. Increasing speaker confidence increases risk taking throughout life. Use of Academic English can be a key to unlock the door to broader educational and financial opportunities.

Without words we could not accomplish any of these tasks. Without words, we would lack the fundamental building blocks of success—both in academics and in life. Our programs helps children from low-resource backgrounds learn how to use words to think, speak, to imagine, and to creatively interact with others.

You form an impression of someone within the first 30 seconds of meeting him/her. Language for Scholars teaches students and young adults to make good first impressions and to carry themselves well and with confidence.

If you have your head down in class or look dis-interested in what the teacher is saying, he/she may form a negative impression of you regardless of how intelligent you are. Language for Scholars teaches students how to make the best of their classroom experience and form good relationships with teachers.
