Overview

Leap’s After School EnRichment program – or LASER – maximizes the hours elementary and high school students spend in after-school settings nearly every day. With curriculum and professional development trainings designed specifically to work in concert with virtually any after-school program, LASER helps after-school leaders make the most of this crucial time.

For students who struggle academically, the hours immediately after school are a natural opportunity to spend some more time tackling difficult subjects and schoolwork. Through LASER, Leap Learning Systems goes deeper than those immediate challenges. We work with after-school leaders and educators to help them use their after-school program to build students' competency in four fundamental areas they can apply to mastery of all subjects:

Reading decoding skills
Reading comprehension
Language skills
Writing skills

The LASER curriculum directly addresses these pillars of literacy through easy-to-implement, fun lessons and directives for youth leaders and after-school care givers.

How It Works

LASER curriculum is comprised of themed units with two-tiered lesson plans for students in grades 1-3 and 4-8. Each unit contains lessons and extension activities. Through LASER’s professional development component, Leap staff trains after-school leaders how to incorporate consistent, effective literacy and language skill-building into their programs.
